Overview

Actalent is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Applications Engineer to join our team in Roanoke, Virginia. This position is pivotal in bridging the gap between customer needs and engineering solutions, particularly in the manufacturing, mechanical, and electrical engineering domains. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background and a passion for problem-solving in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Support: Collaborate with clients to understand their technical requirements and provide tailored engineering solutions.
  • Design & Development: Assist in the design and customization of mechanical and electrical systems to meet customer specifications.
  • Technical Expertise: Act as a technical resource for manufacturing processes, equipment, and system functionality.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct feasibility studies, analyze technical data, and provide recommendations for system improvements.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation, including technical drawings, proposals, and reports.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, and sales, to ensure project success.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance processes, reduce costs, and improve system performance.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in an application engineering or related role within the manufacturing industry.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
    • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems design.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and industry standards.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Other: Ability to travel to customer sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC programming and automation systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance standards.
