The Deputy Chief Engineer is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. The role involves ensuring that the hotel’s infrastructure, utilities, and facilities are well-maintained, energy-efficient, and compliant with safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, maintenance management, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Engineer in managing and supervising the maintenance and repair of hotel equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and building infrastructure.
- Ensure that the hotel’s facilities are well-maintained, safe, and functional at all times, with minimal downtime.
- Coordinate and oversee preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and audits to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Manage and monitor the hotel’s energy consumption, utilities, and equipment to reduce operational costs and improve sustainability.
- Supervise, train, and motivate the engineering team, ensuring that all members perform effectively and maintain high standards.
- Coordinate with other hotel departments, including housekeeping and front office, to ensure efficient communication and resolution of any maintenance issues.
- Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for the engineering department.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including fire and safety protocols.
- Assist in handling emergency situations such as power outages, equipment breakdowns, or safety hazards.
- Collaborate with external contractors and vendors for repair, installation, or maintenance services when required.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance schedules, equipment repairs, energy usage, and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in engineering or maintenance management, preferably in the hospitality industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems and energy management.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software and MS Office.
Preferred
- Previous experience working in a 4 or 5-star hotel.
- Certification in energy management or safety regulations is an advantage.
Work Environment
- The role may require working in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as per operational needs.
- Ability to respond to emergencies at any time.
